Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how NISWOSAKIT ("NISWOSAKIT," "we," "us," or "our"), which operates the websites at niswosakit.com and woonsocket.info (the "Site"), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about visitors to the Site ("you"). By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect only the following categories of information, and only as described below.

(a) Information you provide directly.

• Email address (mailing list). If you subscribe to updates, we collect your email address and the date of your subscription.
• Contribution inquiries. If you submit the contribution form, we collect your name, email address, and any message you choose to include.
• Corrections and right of reply. If you submit the corrections form, we collect your name, email address, and the information you provide. Because the purpose of that form is to correct the public record, portions of a submission may be referenced in a public corrections log, and a statement you submit for publication may be displayed alongside the item to which it relates. The form discloses this before you submit.

(b) Payment information. If you make a contribution, payment card information is collected and processed directly by Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe") through Stripe's own secure interface. We do not collect, receive, or store your payment card number or related card details. Our systems receive only the contribution amount.

(c) Information collected automatically.

• Server logs. Our web host may automatically record standard access-log information, such as IP address, the page requested, referring page, browser type, and the date and time of access, for security and operational purposes.
• Local browser storage. The Site stores a limited amount of data locally within your browser solely to operate features you use, specifically your display-theme preference, your progress on the voting checklist, and unsent form drafts. This information remains on your device, is not transmitted to us, and may be deleted by you at any time through your browser.

2. How we use information

We use the information described above only to: operate, maintain, and secure the Site; send the email updates you have requested; respond to contribution inquiries and corrections; process contributions through Stripe; and comply with applicable law. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not engage in targeted advertising.

3. Analytics, cookies, and tracking technologies

The Site does not use analytics services, advertising networks, or cross-site tracking technologies, and does not set cookies for tracking or advertising purposes. We do not construct profiles of visitors and do not track visitors across other websites. The only client-side storage the Site uses is the local browser storage described in Section 1(c), which is not used to track you.

If we implement website-analytics measurement in the future, we will use a privacy-protective method that does not identify individual visitors, does not track visitors across other websites, and does not sell or share the data it collects, and we will update this Policy to identify the service before doing so. No United States law requires a cookie-consent banner for the technologies used on the Site, and none is displayed.

4. Third-party service providers

Certain features of the Site are provided by third parties that receive limited information in order to function. Each processes information under its own privacy policy.

• Stripe processes contributions. See stripe.com/privacy.
• Mapbox renders maps. When a map loads, your browser connects to Mapbox, which receives your IP address and the map area displayed. When you look up a polling place, the address you enter is matched within your browser and is not transmitted to us or to Mapbox. If you request directions, the origin and destination coordinates are transmitted to Mapbox to generate the route. See mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
• Kit (Kit, Inc., formerly ConvertKit) stores the mailing list and delivers email on our behalf as our processor under a data processing addendum. See kit.com/privacy and kit.com/dpa.

The Site also contains links to third-party websites and services (for example, official election resources, Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Uber directions handoffs). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party site, and your use of them is governed by their terms.

5. Disclosure of information

We do not sell your personal information, and we have not sold it. We do not disclose your personal information to third parties except: to the service providers identified in Section 4, and only to the extent necessary to operate a feature you use; where you have submitted content for publication (as described for the corrections form); and where required by law or to protect the security, rights, or property of NISWOSAKIT or others.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy or as required by law. You may request deletion of your information as described in Section 7.

7. Your rights and choices

• Email. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any message or by contacting us.
• Access, correction, and deletion. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by contacting us.
• Individuals identified on the Site. If a page identifies you as a private individual, you may request review of whether the information should be corrected, reduced, de-identified, or removed. See the Disclaimer and Editorial Standards page.
• Rhode Island residents. Under the Rhode Island Data Transparency and Privacy Protection Act, you have the right to confirm whether we process your personal data, to access and obtain a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of the sale of personal data and of targeted advertising. We do not sell personal data and do not conduct targeted advertising. To exercise any right, contact us at contact@niswosakit.com.

8. Children's privacy

The Site is a general-audience resource, is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it.

9. Data security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including storing submitted information in a non-public location and relying on Stripe for the handling of payment card data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Controller and contact

For purposes of the Rhode Island Data Transparency and Privacy Protection Act, the controller responsible for the personal data described in this Policy is the operator of NISWOSAKIT, reachable at contact@niswosakit.com. The categories of personal data we process are: email addresses; names and messages submitted through the contribution and corrections forms; payment information (processed by Stripe); and automatically collected technical data such as IP address. We do not sell personal data and do not use it for targeted advertising.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The current version and its effective date will be posted on this page, and prior versions will be retained.
